About Me

Prologue:  Why Snoopy on Skittles?

The reason is twofold:  It all began from my need to choose a new web handle.  Previously I have used LegoAddict and variations thereof – since I was 11, in fact, playing Runescape.  Obviously, I’m a bit older now and though I maintain a love of Lego I need something more befitting of my ambitions relating to work, school, and world domination.

Thus I chose Snoopy (under suggestion from my Dad).  I am old school.  Joke in the family is that I was born old.  Similarly, I am curious, sedentary, and have frequent temptations to write short pieces of junk that I then try to pass off as “stories” with a “narrative”, the development of neither of which I am good at.

As for Skittles, well, Skittles make me hyper.  That, along with the right number of syllables, provided the perfect blog title.  This is me going a bit beyond my reserved little shell, and I hope  you enjoy it.  Now on with the show.

My name is Chris Tomalty, and I’m a 12th Grade English-Canadian student at Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute.  I’m a junkie on anything and everything technology and DIY-technology (Avid Lifehacker reader), and enjoy hypothetically sitting down with hot chocolate and reading a book (though for various reasons this never happens).

Last year I attended the American Cooperative School of Tunis in Tunis, Tunisia where my aunt works as a high-school music teacher.  There I absorbed that Francoarab culture of Tunisia and improved my grasp on la belle langue (though Arabic thouroughly escapes me).  I traveled far and wide during that time to Italy, Egypt, Morocco, Oman, and the People’s Republic of China among others.  I am an avid traveler and make a point of being so as opposed to “le touriste americain”.

I work for Jankin’s Computers where I assemble, clean, and prepare computers for use and my mom’s web design firm, CarricDesign, which puts out amazing websites for small and medium-sized businesses.

I enjoy analytical literature and film, as well as computer science.  I take a viceral and perhaps morbid pleasure in algebra and believe that everyone really does need to know logarithms in their daily lives (WARNING:  Toxic levels of sarcasm.  Proceed with caution).

My tastes in music are eclectic (I will proceed as if I know what that means) ranging from Baroque to Ska (not punk.  Reggae-style), Romantic Classical to latino and arab pop, and Maritime Canadian (Nova Scotian/Newfie) folk music.  I don’t actually have many favourite composers but simply like the rhythm and energy of the styles in general.  However, never torture me with generic ‘pop’ or – Heaven forbid – rap, which I maintain is a form of spoken word, not music.  And the spoken words often suck too.
